LAMBDA THETA ALPHA LATIN SORORITY, INC.
THE INTELLIGENT AND ELOQUENT GAMMA BETA CHAPTER
EST. APRIL 28, 2001 AT VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY

Interested?
While The Intelligent and Eloquent Gamma Beta Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. is an affiliated member of Vanderbilt's University's Panhellenic Council, we do not participate in formal recruitment or "rush." Instead, we have an interest group called The Interested Ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha. Below are a few questions Interested Ladies commonly ask regarding our intake process.
01
Why doesn't LTA rush?
We at Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. firmly believe that getting to know individuals takes time — that questions of organizational fit and character cannot rightly be answered from a single encounter. We do not rush because we are committed to understanding who you are, completely and genuinely, before making any sort of judgment. In short, we want to get to know prospective members as people first and foremost — and we want to afford prospective members the opportunity to get to know us as people, too.
02
How, then, do I get involved?
Every semester, our chapter will hold multiple informationals, where anyone interested can learn more about LTA in a presentational setting. From there, prospective members can join The Interested Ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha, our official interest group. We also recommend attending chapter-hosted events to gain a greater sense of the nature of our organization's programming. If you have further questions regarding involvement, feel free to contact Angelica Lasala, our Chapter Orientation Adviser, at lta_effusive@yahoo.com.
03
What does the interest group do?
The interest group provides Interested Ladies the opportunity to get a taste of what running a chapter is like through fundraising, community service, activism, and social events. Meanwhile, the interest group serves as a way for Interested Ladies to bond with chapter sisters and each other in a noncommittal setting, allowing the Interested Ladies to decide for themselves whether LTA's sisterhood is a good fit.
04
Do I need to be Latina to join LTA?
Nope! Not only do we cherish our slogan "Latin by tradition, not by definition" — we embody it. Our organization wholeheartedly supports and encourages women of all shapes, sizes, colors, persuasions, and heritages to consider our sisterhood. As the first Latina sorority in the nation, Lambda Theta Alpha recognizes the importance of reaching out to others and forming a united coalition of professional, diverse, culturally, and politically aware women. We are not an exclusive group of women and believe that all women alike should be given an opportunity to make their mark on the world.
05
Greek life seems like a huge financial commitment. Should I be worried about not being able to pay dues?
As is the case with most other Greek organizations, LTA's sisterhood involves orientation fees and semesterly dues. Rest assured, these fees are significantly less than that of most campus sororities, as LTA does not maintain a house and aims to make sisterhood accessible to those who actively seek it. Moreover, scholarship opportunities exist within Vanderbilt's Office of Greek Life.
